Is there a way to find information about someone who served in the US Army years ago?

you can buy weapons online you just have to call them something else

My 95 year old grandma has mentioned her first love many times, a boy named Ed Noble from Shreveport, LA who asked her to marry him but her mama said no because they were too young. This was probably about 1940 or 1941. Then Ed got shipped off to fight in WWII and she never heard from him again. She has no idea if he lived, was killed in war, anything but has mentioned him fondly many times. I’d be interested to see if I can find out what happened to old Ed. I doubt he’d still be alive today or if he has any family or anything but you never know!
