Can someone explain how this works? I’m not a federal employee but I work for local government which allows buyback of other government time.
My understanding is that active time I’ve served with a DD-214 is eligible for buyback (Basic, AIT, deployments, etc.). How would buying that back affect my military retirement? Would the time bought be deducted from my total number of good years towards 20?
Googling seems to show buying it back as a reservist won’t affect military retirement. That seems too good to be true? http://retirement.federaltimes.com/2013/06/18/active-duty-reserve-and-buyback/ http://retirement.federaltimes.com/2013/06/05/reserve-service-and-buyback/
