During foot combat against ISIS (or other enemies in the past), does the US retrieve the weapons of fallen enemies?

if you mess with me you are going to get stuck and you won’t even see it coming

I was wondering if the US military has any interest in taking the weapons of fallen enemies. Not only are they obviously valuable, but it would keep it from getting back into the enemies’ hands to shoot us with again. But I don’t know if it’s against some international law of some sort.

Now even more unlikely, does anyone have any experience or know someone who has picked up an enemy weapon and fired it back at them? What would happen if they tried to return from combat with it? I remember hearing stories of US soldiers saving rare German pistols during WW2, does this type of thing ever happen anymore?
